Aldeburgh Music have commissioned me to record a couple of their Open Air events as part of the 63rd Aldeburgh Festival this month in Suffolk. Today it was the Garden Beach Band consisting of children from the local community and primary schools playing their home-made garden instruments alongside a brass ensemble on the beach at Aldeburgh.
Terracotta pot bells, seed shakers, rakes, hose pipes and bamboo wind chimes were all there and all playable. In between everyone just did what they do on a Sunday morning by the sea - play, chill and snooze. After England’s performance in their opening game of the World Cup, I can imagine the players would be somewhat heartened by the last image here:
NB: Please: if you see an image here of one of your children, don’t hesitate to be in touch with me or Aldeburgh Music and we can arrange a print for you.
