Inteview with Digital Photography magazine: Children and Family Portrait Photography

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Last month I was interviewed by Digital Photographer Magazine about my children and family portraiture business, and in this month’s issue I lead on their resulting article  ‘Start up your own Family portrait business’. The magazine is aimed semi-pro photographers and those starting up in business advising on anything from specific photographic genres to photographic and computer kit and business tips.

It is always lovely to have your pictures in print and also for my clients to see an image from their session with me published -  the children always especially love it.  In this article I have 5 families represented who have had sessions with me in the last couple of years in both London and  Suffolk - and France!

Happy New Year!

Monday, January 9th, 2012

This month I am looking forward to shooting some pictures for the company Little Dish in Notting Hill again. I produced some pictures for Hilary its founder a few years ago so its lovely to be asked back again. I am especially looking forward to catching up with her lovely sons Monty and Ridley who will once again be models and chief tasters in the kitchen.

I also have a very special portraiture session coming up with Derek (1912 - 2012 and counting…) who will celebrate his 100th birthday on the 20th (more on this soon), and then at the other end of the age spectrum I’ll be photographing 9 months old baby Louis who I met yesterday and who I defy any woman not to get broody over.. an utterly gorgeous little character.

Later on this month an interview with me about my family photography will be coming out in the 200th edition of  Digital Photographer magazine. The interview was conducted on the telephone while I was in the throes of  Christmas orders so I hope I managed to say something sensible. And in a few days Sarah and I will be heading to the annual SWPP (Society of wedding and portrait photographers) trade show and convention in Hammersmith, armed with various lists to research some exciting new products we are planning to offer clients this year, as well as attending a some masterclasses and seminars. Even after 10 years (this June) in this industry there is always plenty of new stuff to learn and be inspired by,  as well as the show being an opportunity to hook up with other photographers (old and new) and exchange ideas - and yes have a good moan too!

Back to Christmas, I did pretty much down all photographic tools over the holidays but in between the revelry and domestic duties that took over with a house full of guests and children, I managed to snap a few images.  After a Christmas day of the usual rituals - tackling lego kit instructions from 6am in the morning, wandering aimlessly from room to room with alcohol in one hand  and waste paper basket in other clearing away discarded wrapping paper, retrieving half eaten squashed chocolates lodged between sofa cushions, and saving the contents of crackers mangling up the hoover  - if you have kids this will all resonate - we managed to get out for a blast of fresh air on Boxing Day. These are my two favourite images -  of my brother and his partner taking ‘time out’ on a park bench whilst the cousins let off steam.

Happy New Year!

Christmas is coming… Stuck for a present idea? Photography Vouchers & an offer for 2012

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Here at Anna McCarthy Photography we are busy getting client orders for prints, framed prints and other products from our range ready for a December delivery, and it is exciting to think that many of the photographs I am carefully packaging will be given as gifts on Christmas morning.

So as we all turn our thoughts to Christmas and those ever tricky questions of what we are going to get for ‘him’, ‘her’ or for the ‘grandparents’ etc, I thought this was a good moment to tell you about two cracking incentives to consider Anna’s services as part of your gift giving this year.

First up, for a unique, personal and lasting gift, you might like to consider Anna McCarthy Gift Vouchers.

The voucher you give can be used for, or towards, any photography session, or can be used to purchase prints or framed prints from an existing family or wedding shoot.

To purchase a gift voucher please contact us at anna@annamccarthy.com or by telephone on 07811 242266

Here are just some of the reasons clients book Anna for a photographic session:

a family/children’s portraiture session

a mother to be wanting to mark in pictures this special moment in her life

a newborn or baby shoot

a teenage photo shoot for a daughter or son as she/he heads towards coming of age

a portrait session for a budding actor/musician needing professional portraits for publicity/ Spotlight entry

a birthday party - children’s, 40th, 50th, 70th - or an anniversary party

Vouchers can also be used to purchase prints, framed prints or other products from Anna’s range, visuals of which you can see here. They are available from £15 and are sent to you (or, if you prefer, direct to the recipient with your special message included)  in a gift envelope with ribbon.

Winter is a wonderful time of year for photography with its crisp, frosty mornings and with the sun low in the sky giving a beautiful quality of light - a great time to be out as a family and to be photographed.

As an incentive for wrapping up in your winter woollies and having fun outside, we are offering a discount of £50 against any family photography session booked and taken between January 1st and December 31st 2012 plus a 9×6 inch mounted professional photographic print (value £30) which you can choose yourself from your client gallery from the session.

It is 6 months since I joined Anna McCarthy Photography and in that time I have witnessed the faces of many happy families who have been photographed by Anna. Here is a flavour of some of her more recent sessions and the response Anna has received from those clients:

Suffolk Photography: Interview and article Suffolk Magazine

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I am pretty chuffed about this, the first ever interview with me about my photography.

Thank you to friend and client Gina Long, journalist Dave Gooderham who approached and interviewed me, and to the Editor at Suffolk Magazine Richard Bryson.  Also all those who agreed to have images from their shoots showcased, and especially Matt.  The article appears in October’s edition of the magazine.

New Photography Studio - Suffolk

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

It’s been a while since I posted largely because I’ve been finding it hard to keep up with the workload… not that I’m complaining!  As well as the usual out and about photography that I do (weddings, events, pr, families etc),  I’ve recently been busy expanding my business into product photography now that I have a fully functioning brand new studio here in Suffolk. It feels great to have my very own dedicated studio space at last!

I’ve been photographing beauty products and quilts recently and a number of studio based children and portraiture shoots are coming up soon.

Meanwhile, last weekend I photographed  Piers and Kate’s amazing wedding which had no less than three locations: Blythburgh Church, Elms Barns near Beccles and The Swan at Southwold will be posting  highlights of their day here very soon.
