Wedding Photography in London: Marylebone Town Hall & the Gore Hotel, Queensgate

My smallest wedding to date but small is most definitely beautiful. Mike and Debbie were married last Monday morning at Marylebone Town Hall with just three special people as witnesses: Betty, Dave and Linsey.

After a speedy exchange of vows, we hopped into cabs to find warmth and champagne at the elegant yet cosy Gore boutique Hotel, stopping off en route to capture some shots of the newly weds in London’s Hyde Park.

I could not have asked for a happier or more life affirming final shoot of 2010.

Congratulations Mike and Debbie and I hope the children will enjoy these!

Portrait Photography in Suffolk: 90th Birthday at Seckford Hall

Dark wintery day, teeming down with rain with no let up and just one rare opportunity to take a photograph of 28 family members gathering from all over the country to celebrate Nana’s 90th birthday.

Seckford Hall is an impressive tudor mansion set in idyllic grounds, the perfect backdrop for this kind of portrait, but no chance of that today.

Large group shots like this seem simple until you come up against a situation like this: bucketing rain and pretty much no natural light at all in or out, and this is not the sort of picture you can ever hope to get even a half decent result with with on-camera flash. You need to bring in some studio lighting which is what I did.

My favourite picture is the one I took to test my lights were working!

Siu’s Surprise 50th Birthday - Photography in Sussex

This summer, my family gathered to surprise my gorgeous sister Siu for her 50th birthday. It all took place in one room in one of Sussex’s best pubs - the Fox in Charlton near Goodwood, Chichester.

Siu was born in Hong Kong, and was adopted by my parents before I was born. She has never been back since she arrived in Britian in 1962 but in this, her 50th birthday year, she will visit for the first time en route to Australia this Christmas. Amazing!

Not only did Siu know nothing about this surprise, but the occasion was made even more special with daughter Gemma appearing unexpectedly from Australia, and by being presented by son Jamie with a beautiful new violin, something that, amongst most things she’s ever put her mind to, Siu excels at.

Children’s Party Photography in Suffolk

The sunday before last I took some snaps at my daughter Lydia’s 5th birthday party. Small numbers but perfect with the fantastic children’s entertainer, face painter, magician and all round child magnet Steff of Steff and Nonsense

This will be the first of two posts as I am soon to record another children’s party hosted by Steff to provide her with some fresh new images bringing what she does up to date for her website and own publicity around Suffolk.

In the meantime here are a few which I hope show just how much the children warm to her. The fact that I could take pictures, get food on the table for all the kids and generally run around being mummy and photographer at the same time is testiment to what a natural Steff is with kids, effortlessly holding their attention for the duration of the party.

Thoroughly recommended for a stress-free party for parents and so wonderful to see the children falling apart with laughter. And my daughter is still trying to work out how Steff poured milk into the top of her head and then retrieved it from her elbow. Come to think of it, so I am…

Suffolk Christening Photography: Vinton Family

Being a Suffolk photographer has its distinct advantages and one of them is photographing weddings and christenings in some of the counties wonderful churches. Last Sunday I was at Grunsbrugh church near Woodbridge for the christening of three very happy children - siblings Benjamin (6), Ruby (4) and Maggie (6 months) all christened together amid much love and smiley faces.

After the service, family and guests walked up the hill to the family home where the celebrations continued in the garden including a lovely moment when all 27 children released helium balloons into the bluest of skies.
