Radio 5 Live’s Shelagh Fogarty: Portrait Photography in Richmond

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Some people in life are just a pleasure to meet and spend time with and last week I had the good fortune to photograph one such person - the much loved presenter of Radio 5 Live’s breakfast show Shelagh Fogarty.

Maybe it’s because we were born in the same year, or because we are both youngest in large families, or share a strong independent streak - I dunno -  but whatever it was we were off: chatting away for England (and Ireland) and darting around all manner of subjects as we went walkabout around Richmond park. And we just about remembered to shoot a few pictures along the way…

As all those who have woken up to Shelagh over the past seven years will know, she has that winning combination of intelligence,  humour, insightfulness and warmth - the sort of person who can make a connection with anyone from any walk of life and secure their trust within minutes. And if that isn’t the sign of a natural journalist I don’t know what is.

Even more of us will now be enjoying Shelagh presence over the airwaves as she makes the move over to Radio 5 Live’s lunchtime slot next week.. I for one will be poised and ready to listen in. Thank you Shelagh for a lovely few hours in your company.

Editorial Photography London: Yachting Monthly Magazine

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

Monday morning, hammering down with rain. What’s new? But luckily by lunchtime all cleared and I had the pleasure of shooting some outdoor pictures of the Editor of Yachting Monthly magazine - Paul Gelder -  to refresh his monthly Editorial in the magazine.

We had a lovely relaxed walkabout around St Katherine’s Dock amongst the boats there, dodging the canopies laden with rainwater and searching out the best backgrounds and light for his portrait. Sometimes my job doesn’t really feel like work at all and today was just like that. Here are a few that I especially like:

Portrait Photography in Kensington - Yasmin

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

I spent a morning photographing Yasmin recently. Very relaxed in the comfort and privacy of her own home. It was freezing cold outside so we stayed warm inside and used largely the available light in the house.

I love these kind of shoots. It is a privilege to be trusted with photographing someone one has never set eyes on before, to spend time getting to know them a little as well as having a broad brief - in this case to capture some portraits for Yasmin’s husband and herself. I really hope that some of these will make it to the walls of her lovely home.

If you are interested in having a portrait session with me - as a present to a loved one, for your business or simply to celebrate you at a particular juncture in your life or to create a record that your children can look back on and cherish in the years to come - please be in touch.

Here are a few from that morning:

PR and Event Photography in London - MTC at the Royal College of Physicians

Friday, October 1st, 2010

London 2012 and the Olympic Games coming to our capital is closer than we all imagine and this week I had the pleasure of photographing a really special event Ahead of the Games at the Royal College of Physicians hosted by the media and talent managment company MTC and  Shelagh Fogarty from Radio Five Live. 15 Olympic athletes from both past and present took part (see their portraits below) and were also joined by Head Coach of British Athletics Charles Van Commenee, Ned Boulting sports journalist and broadcaster and Olympic Gold Champion James Cracknell.

I usually find myself tuning out of what is being said when I’m recording events but it was impossible to do this here - the anticipation of the thrill and excitement in store for 2012 filled the room, and with so many unique, moving and often hilarious testimonies from the athletes, even a sports phillistine such as me could not fail to be inspired.

Here are some highlights from the day followed by all the athletes who took part:

Portrait Photographer City of London: Dr Lynda Shaw

Friday, July 9th, 2010

I am hugely behind on the blogging front and have many shoots to post in the coming weeks.

Here’s a lovely portrait session I had recently with Dr Lynda Shaw. Lynda is a Neuropsychologist who helps others to see that the key to peace of mind, pleasure, positive mental outlook, healthier relationships etc is fundamentally a selfless outlook and she does this by bringing together her dual backgrounds in psychology and science to explain to us what is happening in our brains and how to tap in to beneficial patterns of behaviour. Lynda is currently building her new website and I will post a link to it soon. I think many of us need her!

All I can say is that if you met Lynda, you would immediately see that she herself is the embodiment of all that she teaches.

Anyway we had a lovely easy stroll out from my base in London’s Barbican around the city looking for interesting backgrounds and chatting all the while. Here are a few favourites:
