Anna McCarthy Products to give for Christmas: Glacier Blocks - and a special offer for 2012

Monday, December 5th, 2011

For today’s post as we head ever closer to Christmas and many of us are wracking our brains for ideas for that special present for him or her, here is one of my most popular products that I just completed an order for.

These 5 x 5 inch glacier blocks are particularly popular with my family and wedding clients. Newly weds often purchase one of their favourite images from their day as a first Christmas keepsake for him or her,  and parents like to give them to each other and/or as a gift to grand- and godparents. These 5 are destined on Christmas day for godparents.

It is hard to do complete justice to these lovely highly reflective blocks in a 2d image, but with the glacier block your print is mounted to the back of the 30mm acrylic block and encapsulated enhancing that ‘moment forever captured’ feel and giving a lovely prism effect. Glacier blocks are ideal on a bedside table,  mantelpiece, shelf, coffee table or desk and are a particularly personal gift and keepsake. I have a number in my own house that I’d definitely grab in the event of a fire, and over the years, many clients of mine have their favourite wedding image or image of their child/ren in these by they beds as the last thing they see when they turn out the light and there beside them when they wake up in the morning - and make a point of telling me how much pleasure they give.

Glacier blocks are available in sizes from 5×5 inch to 12×10 inch. You will find more visuals of them including the 7×5 inch version here. For more information on sizes and prices, click here if you are a family client,  and here if you are a wedding client, and to contact me to find out more or make a purchase email me at anna@annamccarthy.com or 07811 242266. There is still just about enough time for me to get one to  you before the great day is upon us.

And while we are speaking of Christmas gifts, do click here to see details for purchasing Anna McCarthy Gift vouchers and here for a special offer for 2012.

Charlotte and Marcus - Wedding Photography in Orford and Woodhall Manor, Suffolk

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

When you’re a wedding photographer, and you’ve been photographing weddings for some years, it is a mix of feelings being a guest rather than the photographer at a wedding. In many ways it is bliss - being able to just relax and enjoy it, but it is really pretty impossible not to keep looking for those pictures whether you’ve got a camera with you or not.

And I invariably have got my camera with me. And in truth, I am probably always happiest at social occasions with it, even in a dress, heels, handbag in one hand, wine glass in the other and a six year old daughter to look after.

I do have one rule when go to any event not as the official photographer. I only allow myself to take one small fixed lens. For friends Charlotte and Marcus’s wedding, which took place at the end of July in Orford and Woodhall Manor near Woodbridge Suffolk, I took my amazing new fast 35 mm lens. Nothing else: no other lenses, no flashguns, no batteries, back ups etc. Just simple.

With a discreet lens it is much easier to integrate into the crowd, be the guest that I am supposed to be and (most important of all) not get in the official photographers’ way. And it is always a great discipline to just concentrate with one focal length and see what you can get if you move your feet a bit more…

Congratulations Charlotte and Marcus!   Sorry it has taken me so long. I hope you will enjoy these:

Wedding Photography in Oxfordshire: Lisa and Jack Part Two

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

I was shooting wedding photography in Oxfordshire again a few weeks ago, returning to the lovely Eynsham Hall for Lisa and Jack’s big day.

Here is part 2 of my highlights of their brilliant day.

After  the ceremony and some swift group photographs, Lisa, Jack and I had a 15 minute walkabout in the grounds for some portraits. Those final images of Richard Gere and Debra Winger in that 80s film An Officer and a Gentleman sprang to mind as Jack swept Lisa off the ground and turned her around.  I love these pictures, so natural and in the moment…

Jack’s speech was one of the most heartfelt I’ve heard, not only about Lisa of course, but in giving thanks for and to his parents. I think everyone, including me welled up at that point.

Lisa threw her bouquet a couple of times for some very determined ladies before guests were treated to an impromptu fire handling display, a surprise present from a very brave (or mad) friend.

A wonderful day  full of  character, emotion and elegance against the perfect backdrop of Eynsham.

The complete edit of images from Lisa and Jack’s wedding in Oxfordshire will be avaialable to view this Saturday and I will post a link to them then.

Wedding Photography in Oxfordshire: Lisa and Jack, Part One

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

I was back at Eynsham Hall, North Leigh, just outside Oxford the weekend before last  - a wonderfully grand and  elegant setting to be married in - to photograph Lisa and Jack’s nuptials.

I have to admit Military weddings are always special, not just because the men frankly look so great in their uniforms, but because one senses, with the coming together of two families to celebrate the union of two people who are likely to be often apart even when married, has added emotional meaning -  and romance - attached.

Congratulations guys. Here are highlights of the story of your day up til you tied the knot. I hope you will be able to see these together! I will post part two in a day or so, and all the images from Lisa and Jack’s wedding in Oxfordshire will be ready to view soon on their online gallery. If you would like me to send you an email to let you know when they are all ready to view, please send me a message here.
