Marylebone Town Hall Wedding Photographer - Anissa & Deepak

We absolutely loved having you as our photographer and you helped to make our day so special. You have captured some amazing (and hilarious) memories of our wedding day.

A super relaxed wedding at Old Marylebone Town Hall filled with humour and joy

Earlier this year, for their summer wedding, Anissa and Deepak commissioned me as their Old Marylebone Town Hall Wedding Photographer - a London civil service wedding venue I have visited many times but not in record heat as temperatures soared towards the forties.
A small wedding with just close family in attendance but no less beautiful and joyful, starting and ending at on the rooftop terrace of the Holmes Hotel, conveniently just situated 5 mins from the Town Hall.
This was a wedding which brought together 4 cultures - English, Algerian, Scottish and Indian - and a wonderful bride and groom with a large dose of humour between them and fantastically fun to photograph.

Bridal & Groom Prep

Inspired by Baker Street’s most famous resident, Anissa and Deepak chose the elegant Georgian Holmes Hotel in Chiltern Street to get ready in and for the celebrations afterwards.
I usually arrive about an hour before the bride is ready, to capture the finishing touches, the excitement, busyness and anticipation - and often that moment when the dress goes on and things start to get very real! Often there are emotional moments and great wedding storytelling pictures come about, even at this early stage of the day. Despite the temperature - and this will be a summer when we remember this (though I wonder with Climate Change whether this is going to be more the rule than the exception), Anissa was utterly relaxed and cool - just so happy that the day had arrived and she was going to marry the man she loves.

This was a wedding where the Groom decided to surprise his bride by wearing a kilt, and where his two nieces were bridesmaids. Adoration of the Groom was order of the day and the adoration was mutual. Deepak arrived under cover at the hotel to meet up with his family and collect the button holes and then it was a short stroll for him, his two little proteges and his family to the Town Hall with Anissa and Dad following on not long after.

The Ceremony - Pimlico Room, Old Marylebone Town Hall

In spite of the heat, what an incredibly fun ceremony it was in the Pimlico Room at Marylebone Town Hall. Anissa got a bit of a surprise to see Deepak in a kilt but was, I think, too in the emotional moment to properly take that in. Deepak, on the other hand, was breathing a sigh of relief that he had one on - and pants too underneath! - when he spotted a cooling fan in the room.
The bridesmaids had a surprise for the couple in the form a specially written poem and a ‘last chance to run’ sign! Then the happy couple danced out of the room to their future together. Perfect.

The Reception - The Holmes Hotel, Chiltern Street, London

After the obligatory and traditional confetti moment on the steps of this what I call ‘rock n’ roll’ wedding venue, there was a change of footwear (I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people help someone to do up their trainers), some swiftly executed group family photos, and a leisurely walk along the streets of Marylebone to the roof terrace of the Holmes Hotel for afternoon tea and cake.

It's traditional in Indian culture to feed people something sweet when they're celebrating a big event but I also understand that it is of Roman origin too, symbolising the bride and groom’s commitment to provide for each other. That tradition was conducted with full enthusiasm!

I’m shooting a lot at Marylebone Town Hall this summer where they also have a record number of weddings. Everything is just so beautiful organised there and caring to couples. I have never witnessed anything go awry and only kindness, helpfulness and a commitment to making everything run smoothly and wonderfully for the couples.

Thank you Mr and Mrs Jassal for choosing me and may you continue to surprise each other, look at each other like that and laugh at life together.
